FANTASY FOOTBALL: RAIDERS RECEIVER SCHILENS LIKELY OUT

In my fantasy football column in today's (Saturday) New Haven Register I urged everyone to consider using Oakland receiver Chaz Schilens if a receiver was needed in their lineup.
However, according to the Raiders' Web site Schilens had a setback in practice and went from probable to questionable. Coach Tom Cable said he will be a game-time decision.
Schilens suffered a foot injury in August and has been out 10 weeks. The 6-foot-4 receiver was supposed to make his 2009 NFL debut this weekend. Now, it is likely Schilens won't make his 2009 debut until Week 8.

FANTASY FOOTBALL: WEEK 6 PLANNER-IN AND OUT

As of 12:45 p.m. (Sunday), the biggest news regarding who is starting and sitting today involves Vikings receiver Percy Harvin and Lions receiver Calvin Johnson.
As expected, Calvin Johnson (knee injury) is inactive today and will not play.
Percy Harvin (shoulder injury) is active and is expected to play. However, because he is still not 100 percent, Sydney Rice will likely get more looks from Brett Favre today.

FANTASY FOOTBALL-WEEK 6 PRE-GAME PLANNER-WEATHER WORRIES

Be advised that heavy rain is expected in the Northeast all day today, making life interesting in the Buffalo at Jets and Tennessee at New England games.
Thanks to state-of-the art equipment, like the specially treated receivers gloves that are available these days, balls are a lot more catchable when inclement weather descends on a game. But the slick rain can still cause fumbles and interceptions.
Because of that, expect Pats back Sammy Morris and Titans back Chris Johnson, Jets backs Thomas Jones and Leon Washington, and Buffalo backs Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson to get a little more involved than usual because of the foul weather.
The tight ends in these games should also be more involved with short passes a higher percentage play than deep bombs in the rain. I see Dustin Keller and Ben Watson, if he's healthy, to be huge fantasy point producers today.

FANTASY FOOTBALL: WEEK 6 PRE-GAME PLANNER-WEEK OF THE TIGHT END

Matchups mean everything in fantasy football and they are looking good for many tight ends around the NFL today.
Baltimore's Todd Heap, Pittsburgh's Heath Miller, Tampa Bay's Kellen Winslow, Houston's Owen Daniels, Seattle's John Carlson, Jacksonville's Marcedes Lewis, New Orleans' Jeremy Shockey, Green Bay's Jermichael Finley, Kansas City's Sean Ryan, the Jets' Dustin Keller, the Giants' Kevin Boss, Atlanta's Tony Gonzalez, Philadelphia's Brent Celek and San Diego's Antonio Gates should all post at least 10-20 fantasy points today and Monday.
Some of these guys are obvious plays, like Gonzalez and Gates. But if you need a bye-week replacement at tight end, grab Finley, Ryan or Lewis who should all be available on your waiver wire.
I would normally add Washington's Chris Cooley to the above list, but since Redskins coach Jim Zorn has been using Cooley mostly as a blocking tight end in recent weeks, play Cooley at your own risk. Cooley could get 20 points or 2 points today.
